Many years passed since Daniela and Francesco Mestre began with a small inn called Casa Verardo, whose entrance is from the ‘Ponte Storto’ (“crooked bridge”, because of its shape), overlooking the little Rio Drio La Chiesa (“canal behind the church”), just a stone’s throw from Piazza San Marco and Rialto Bridge.
Casa Verardo, that at that time was located only on the first “piano nobile” of the Palazzo and only a few rooms where available, was already opened to travellers since early 1900, becoming soon their “home away from home” and many of them return every year looking for that magical atmosphere, typical of the Venetian Palazzo.
After extending the Casa Verardo to include the upper floors, Daniela and Francesco devoted their time and energies to the full renovation of the Palazzo, giving new life to the decorations of the terrazzo “alla veneziana” (the typical Venetian floor) of the two main floors, of the painted wooden beams, the inner garden and the ancient column dating back from the 17th century.
The careful restoration of the building and of the common areas, the opening of the rooftop terrace on the fourth floor (from where you can enjoy a spectacular view of Venice), the antique furniture, the paintings dating back to the Scuola Veneziana of the 16th century, the Fortuny lamps, the fabrics by Rubelli, have enabled the Hotel to be qualified and certified as a “Residenza d’Epoca” (one of the few listed in town) and to become a refined landmark for travellers looking for elegance, space, silence and service in Venice.
The Casa Verardo is the perfect choice for couples and families and, of course, for little groups of people interested to art and photography anxious to discover the beauties of the city.
